What is a yurt?

A yurt is a moveable, circular dwelling made of a lattice of flexible wood and covered in felt. They are a sturdy, reliable type of tent. Yurts have been the primary style of homes in Central Asia, particularly Mongolia, for thousands of years. The roof of a yurt is the most complex part of the structure. The central part of the roof is called the crown. The crown is a ring to which roof poles are attached. The felt that covers the yurt is usually made from wool from sheep, goats, or yaks.

Modern day yurts are often used for studios, health/fitness centers, holiday cabins, guest houses or even permanent homes. The openness of the interior allows for its many uses. Yurt owners can partition areas designated for sleeping, eating and cooking, or, leave the entire building open. Yurts can be used for basically anything.

Our yurt has a wooden floor and uses modern fabrics that have been developed to withstand the wear and tear of strong winds, sun and rain. It is wonderfully insulated and will keep you very comfortable year round.

The natural light from above and the two windows truly gives you the feeling of being outside. Some people would call it "glamping". You have an additional bathroom attached and a built in kitchenette.

On top of the many tangible benefits of a yurt, the aesthetics and conditions of a yurt are often attributed to healing, as well as creative, communal and spiritual advancement. The warm, embracing and nourishing structure of a yurt is often used by resorts and retreat centers to facilitate meditation, spiritual practice, dancing and healing arts. Overall, yurts just feel good.

If you have yet to experience the inspiring and soothing space come and stay in Pront's yurt, Nov.
