10 Fun DIY Décor Projects for you and your kids & teens

Summer is here and that means two things, (to us mums anyway) the kids need activities to keep busy and once again we want to redecorate. These Home Décor projects are fun and easy enough for your kids to enjoy. The results look professional and will be a beautiful addition to any room. I put this list together of projects that I have tried myself. Each and every project (small or large) was something that my kids were all very excited about. For kids and teens there is a lot of added value in something that they themselves have created. In all the projects they can choose the colors they want to match their room. Instead of spending big money on redecorating, you can keep them busy (off their electronic devices for a while!) and give their rooms a touch of something new!

1. Macramé plant hangers are back! And they are so much fun to make. Here are two, easy to follow video tutorials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z_kK4zG24M, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUkbcSyinIo

2. Swirl paper lamps, an easy lamp project to give your room a new look,

3. Silhouette painting, this you can do with almost any image. Choose a background color that you like, choose an image to use as your silhouette (this you can freehand or use a stencil) and the results are stunning, here is a simple and gorgeous example:

4. String Lamp, these round string lamps are so easy to make and you can make them in a natural hemp cord like I did or a colorful string. They come out beautiful either way.

5. Tin jars spray painted or decorated with leftover wallpaper or decorative washi tape. I bet you didn’t know you’d have any use for all those used olive/pickle jars. I make them into desk organizers for pens, kids toys, kids arts and craft supplies, you could even use them in the kitchen. Have fun!

6. String banner, This works great in a kids room but is just as nice for adults, Here is a short video I created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9AT_ugwUE4&feature=youtu.be

7. Rope name sign, individual ones to hang above a bed or a family name sign for your front door. Either way they give a nice farmhouse look.

8. Collage wall picture. I promised my boys that I would make them a cowboy room, so I found an old wooden frame and my old horse book (that one of the kids had kindly started ripping apart already) and together we started choosing our favorite cow.boy/horse pictures. Simply glue the pictures onto a cardboard sheet and frame. Of course this can be done in any theme.

9. Feather wall decoration. This is particularly fun for nature lovers. Collect feathers and find a nice sturdy stick and hang feathers and beads from the stick in a nice decorative way. You can be creative and paint the stick or feathers if you are looking for a more colorful finish.

10. Decorative pillows. You can take an existing plain pillow case and use fabric pens to draw a pattern with or you can print onto special paper that allows you to iron the printed picture onto fabric and choose a nice, maybe black and white image to iron onto the pillow case. Another option is to find some funky old fabrics and sew yourself a pillow. It’s also fun to cut out shapes out of the fabrics and glue them onto your pillow case to create an image (such as an owl, fruit, cactus, cupcake, your favorite animal… that’s just a few ideas).
